UPSC – ‘CIVIL SERVICES’ (I.A.S., I .P.S., I.F.S. etc,) Examination
Civil services are considered as one of the premier services which paves the way for becoming an IAS, IPS or IFS officer. These services offer all one can aspire prestige, job security, good salary, opportunity of foreign tour, job satisfaction etc. Above all this is a prestigious post in our country. Civil service is one of the most versatile services available. An IAS officer can serve in various fields and administration like, public administration, finance, law and order, social sector, security, business, agriculture, service sector, non profit sector etc.. Generally, an officer gets to work with everything that affects people or society in general. It is best suited for those who like variety in their work and love working with people. It may not be the best choice for aspirants who have great technocratic streak in them and would be satisfied by excelling in a particular field only, like hard core technocrats, doctors or businessmen.
The Union Public Services Commission conducts Civil Services Examination once a year in two stages.
The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) each of 200 marks and carries a total of 400 marks.
